Attic Insulation Before & After Photos

As a contractor who specializes in insulation services, we often come across older homes that have not had their attic inspected in years if not decades.  Over time insulation can settle or shift and become less effective or not effective at all.  Our Home Performance Sales Pros are able to identify when this has happened and develop projects and solutions to fix it.  This Lovettsville VA attic had years of settled insulation and dust, barely covering the surface of the attic in some spots.  Our production team built up damning walls to hold a higher R Value of insulation and keep it from shifting over the years to come.  Tru Soft blown cellulose insulation will last in this attic for years to come.  

This home in Warrenton VA needed to have its attic better insulated.  The home was uncomfortable on the top floors and the homeowner was paying higher energy costs than they should have.  A Comfenergy Production Team came out to the home and removed all the existing insulation, used Zyp Foam to air seal the space and the blew in Tru Soft Cellulose Insulation.  Tru Soft is fire safe, non harmful to humans and is treated with a compound that makes mice or other rodents want to leave the area it is in.  This home is now better prepared to hold in the conditioned air created by the HVAC system and will cost less money to heat or cool. 

This Leesburg, VA homeowner had mold growing in their vented attic assembly that was causing the family to develop allergies and get sick very often.  Comfenergy discovered this attic mold and treated it with MoldX-2 before air sealing, insulating and providing other services.

This Leesburg VA home was uncomfortable to the homeowners.  They called us to get help and our Home Performance Sale Pro Eric went out to perform a no cost whole home inspection to try and find a solution to their problems.   The attic had insulation that was not getting the job done.  The performance level of the existing insulation (otherwise known as R Value)  was less than what would be needed for the type of home and space in the attic along with the fact that the attic was not air sealed.  This meant that conditioned air made by the HVAC system was being allowed to escape from the rooms it was made to cool down or heat up, causing the HVAC system to run more and use up more energy.  Our production crew came and removed the existing insulation, then used Zyp Foam to create an air seal around the cracks and can light fixtures that accessed the rooms below.  They would then install Rock Wool insulation to cover the base of the attic and then blow in Tru Soft Cellulose insulation to fill the space to its needed R Value.  Shown here is the attic at the mid way point in the project when the existing insulation was removed and the air seal had been completed.  Then shown as after is the finished project with Tru Soft insulation covering everything.  

This attic in Leesburg Virginia was upgraded with a radiant barrier to help keep temperatures down and energy cost lower than they had been.  Applying the radiant barrier throughout the attic will help to keep external heat from penetrating into the attic.
