Spray Foam Insulation Case Studies: Cold/Drafty Top Floor - Purcellville, VA

Challenge

This Purcellville, VA homeowner was having trouble with a drafty/cold top floor during the winter. The top floor was also hot in the summer months.

Solution

Comfenergy performed a full comfort and energy evaluation to find attic knee-wall spaces all along the top floor that were allowing hot/cold air to pass into the living space and allowing heated and cooled air out. Thus, the drafty/cold top floor.

The solution was to remove all of the fiberglass insulation in these knee-wall areas and "encapsulate" them using closed cell spray foam insulation. These ares are now air sealed and have become part of the conditioned space of the top floor. No more cold winter drafts here!
