Challenge

A homeowner in Clearbrook, VA wanted to make her kitchen sink area and upstairs floor more comfortable. Her pipes were freezing in the winter and her top floor was too hot in the summer.

Solution

To make the kitchen area more comfortable, our Comfenergy Production Crew upgraded the 2" x 4" wall insulation with inserted dense-packed TruSoft cellulose insulation by removing siding and drilling the sub-wall, and then reinstalling the siding.

To make upstairs more comfortable, we removed the existing insulation in the attic, air sealed using expanding polyurethane foam, and then blew in TruSoft cellulose insulation to an R value of 60. We also upgraded the existing scuttle.

The only insulation they had in their attic was old, dirty, and ineffective.

The Comfenergy Production crew removes the old insulation. It's a dirty job, but someone has to do it.

We air sealed the attic by closing all accessible penetrations and top plates using expanding polyurethane foam.

Siding is removed and holes are drilled into the sub-wall and inserted with dense-packed TruSoft cellulose.

TruSoft cellulose insulation is blown into the attic to an R value of 60.
