Insulation Services Case Studies: Low Odor Attic Insulation - Richardsville, VA

Challenge

This Richardsville, VA homeowner was concerned with odors that might be emitted by any materials used to air seal and insulate their attic. They had issues with duct work sweating and creating mold on drywall which was creating an allergic reaction for them.

Solution

The solution for the problem incorporated removal of the old fiberglass insulation, then air sealing leakage points, and finally blowing in ProWool loose rock wool insulation. The reason for this ProWool material is to keep the odors and dust down while blowing in the new insulation.

The existing blown fiberglass insulation was removed and disposed. Then all air leaks were sealed with orange one part spray foam. You can see the vertical walls sprayed with closed cell foam where the old fiberglass batts used to fall down and leave bare drywall.
