Challenge

This Leesburg, VA homeowner was having issues with high humidity in their home all year round. Upon a comfort and energy evaluation, Comfenergy found the source of the humidity to be coming from the crawl space beneath the home.

Solution

Comfenergy solved this problem by removing all fiberglass insulation that was absorbing the humidity. Next, we installed dimple matting to allow the ground to dry out beneath the vapor barrier. Then, TerraBlock insulation was installed to keep the ground from absorbing the heat out of the crawl space. Finally, a 20 mil Clean Space vapor barrier and closed cell spray foam insulation were installed.

This Leesburg, VA homeowner was having trouble with high humidity all year round.

This was what was beneath their home. A nasty crawl space allowing moisture to enter the home.

Look at the old, thin vapor barrier (well, what's left) serving no purpose at all.

Dimple matting was installed to allow the earth to dry beneath the vapor barrier.

TerraBlock insulation was installed over the dimple matting to keep the crawl warm. Notice the sump pump also installed to evacuate any water.

The finished product!!! Now the homeowner can control the humidity in the home.
